Volunteer Work Program

From time to time, Dolphin Quest seeks people to help with the operation of our retreat through our Volunteer Work Program. We look for individuals skilled in areas of building, mechanics (especially outboard motors and small generators), alternative energy and sustainable living, carpentry, landscaping, gardening, and healing arts such as t'ai chi, yoga, martial arts, and massage therapy. If you have 5 or more years experience in any of these areas, let us know. Dolphin Quest is also supporting wild animal release programs taking place on our beach, and need volunteers to assist these projects.

Program Specifics

We request that each volunteer stay for a 12-day trial period. He/She will work 3 hours per day. A $20/day charge will include meals and dormitory sleeping accommodations. Bringing a tent is recommended if you like the option of your own space. We feel it is in the best interest for all, that we make no long-term arrangements until you have spent some time with us.

After this trial period, we will discuss together, the possibilities of any long-term arrangements. The options are:

  1. The volunteer will continue paying $20/day plus 3 hours work for room and board.
  2. The volunteer will work 6 hours/day in exchange for room and board.
  3. Either party may wish, not to extend the stay.

We suggest any persons coming to Dolphin Quest should feel strong and healthy in body, mind, and spirit. Insects, infection and bacteria thrive here in humidity and will challenge even balanced, healthy bodies. So bring the first aid of your preference to fight surface and systemic infection, especially if you plan to stay more than three weeks.

Don't forget to check out our tips for what to bring in order to make your stay as comfortable as possible. In addition to those items, also include:

  • no seeum net and/or tent with no seeum netting
  • sleeping gear if camping, i.e., light pad or foam (4" thick can be purchased in Golfito for approx. $25)
  • sheets (3)
  • watch or clock (extra batteries would be good, too)
  • work gloves (light weight)
  • snorkel gear, mask, snorkel, fins (optional, but highly recommended)
  • rain boots (can be purchased in Golfito for approx. $10)
